A Child Standard is our generic name for the standards that are directly assessed by teachers; when using a hierarchical standards bank, child standards always belong to a Parent Standard. Full documentation is available at this link.
When viewing, editing, or creating a child standard, consider the following:
- Always create parent standards first, as you're required to select a parent standard when creating a child standard.
- Standards will be sorted by title when viewed by students and teachers, so consider a numbered or coding scheme if the order matters.
- Standards can belong to more than one bank if you need to create version standards over time; learn more here.
- Weight is optional. Leave it blank to allow the weight of each standard to be determined by the number of times it is assessed in a course.
- Standards can be associated with more than one grade level; it's preferred to associate with e.g 9, 10, 11, 12 instead of a single instruction level called "HS" to improve searching and filtering.
